Web millionaire : Daniel Ek

website idea business ideas and home job ideasI recommand you this portrait from Silicon.com : Daniel Ek Extract : Daniel Ek co-founded the Spotify on-demand music streaming service in 2006 with Martin Lorentzon but it has been over the past 12 months that it's really taken off.

The UK-based company's name is a combination of spot and identify and the 26-year-old Ek has certainly done that with a niche in the music industry.

The service is funded by advertising but the balance of the technology and ads seems to have been the right one while there is also a subscription-based service that does away with the ads.

Ek has a track record of online entrepreneurship having previously founded online advertising portal Advertigo, which he sold to Trade Doubler in 2004, the money from which he used to start Spotify. He's also been CTO for virtual teen community site, Stardoll.

Web millionaire : Niklas Zennström

website idea business ideas and home job ideasI recommand you this portrait from Silicon.com : Niklas Zennström Extract : Niklas Zennström is best known as co-founder of Skype - the voice over IP internet telephony service that has been enabling the wired world to talk for free since 2003 and, more recently, to indulge in video calling too. As such, he's a regular feature on the Agenda Setters list. Indeed, since Skype turned up on the tech scene it's tough to find a year when Zennström hasn't figured in this list - back in 2007 and 2006 he made the top 10; in 2005 he ranked in the top five and made the top three in 2004. This year the serial entrepreneur continues to be a serial Agenda Setter, landing just outside the top 10 in 11th place. So what's so special about Zennström? In the words of one judge he's "a one-man innovation powerhouse". As well as co-founding Skype - and selling it on yet keeping hold of the P2P technology which underpins the service - Zennström has a raft of other start-ups to his name.

Web millionaire : Eric Schmidt

website idea business ideas and home job ideasI recommand you this portrait from Silicon.com : Eric Schmidt Extract : Google CEO Eric Schmidt makes the Agenda Setters top 10 for the sixth consecutive year in 2009 and rises two places from his 2008 ranking as Google continues to expand its product portfolio and influence the tech industry. Google has had another interesting year as the company announced it was developing an operating system, initially for netbooks, called Chrome. It also continued to push its Chrome web browser while the Android mobile phone OS has become much more mainstream. Perhaps reflecting the increasing ambitions of Google, Schmidt left Apple's board of directors in August after saying the two businesses were starting to overlap too much.

Web millionaire : Mark Zuckerberg

website idea business ideas and home job ideasI recommand you this portrait from Silicon.com : Mark Zuckerberg Extract : As founder and CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg topped the Agenda Setters list in 2007 after the social network really took off, but he plummeted to 47 last year as judges felt his time had passed. This year's return to the top 10 suggests otherwise.

Now the grand old age of 25, Zuckerberg founded the social networking phenomenon while studying at Harvard in 2004 and now presides over a company that is valued at around $10bn and topped 300 million active users globally in 2009.

During the past 12 months, he has masterminded the launch of a new log-in system for non-Facebook sites (Facebook Connect), improved the site's search functionality and ushered in a new Twitter-like update system.

The company has also attracted $200m of new investment from Digital Sky Technologies and boosted its IP by acquiring social network feed aggregation company, FriendFeed.

Web millionaire : Jimmy Wales

website idea business ideas and home job ideasI recommand you this portrait from Silicon.com : Jimmy Wales Extract : Jimmy Wales, co-founder of the free encyclopaedia Wikipedia, is a familiar face on the Agenda Setters list and one whose star is rising. He made the top 10 in 2006; the top five in 2008; and lands in the top three this year - his best performance yet and a sign of his continued belief in free access to information, and crowdsourcing and collaboration across the network, were prescient.

"The wiki is a pervasive and visionary milestone for web 2.0," as one Agenda Setters judge explains.

Under Wales' guidance wikis are gaining in credibility, according to the panellists. Or as another judge puts it, Wales has "provided the world evidence of the potential for collaborative network organisations to co-create information". Disruptive stuff alright.

Web millionaire : Evan Williams

website idea business ideas and home job ideasI recommand you this portrait from Silicon.com : Evan Williams Extrait : It's been a spectacular year for Twitter, the microblogging site that started life back in 2006 as a side project for staff at a San Francisco start-up but has since mushroomed into a social networking juggernaut, providing up-to-the-second info on what people around the world are up to, from celebrities and politicians to CEOs and average joes. US President Barack Obama used Twitter as part of his election campaign, famously using it as a base to communicate with and rally his supporters. And in September internet search data company Hitwise noted that Twitter has overtaken MySpace in the UK and is catching up with Bebo in the popularity stakes, ranking as the fourth most popular social networking site or forum in the UK.
